Internship Responsibilities

In direct collaboration with the staff of the Urban Risk and Community Resilience Unit of the IFRC in Panamá, the intern will, among other tasks, provide support for carrying out the following activities:

  • Map key areas in the Americas where the National Red Cross Societies (NS) are in need of support from the unit and recommend plans for follow-up.
  • Map and compile relevant information and data from other institutions and organizations that could be useful both for the implementation of programs within the thematic areas of the unit and for NS in their programming.
  • Compile information needed for the elaboration of case studies to illustrate examples of best practices and lessons learned to be shared with NS (such as activities related to community health, access to health services, migration, violence prevention or showing how social inclusion is promoted in health activities).
  • Map activities and methodologies used by NS in Americas in their work related to health. This mapping will contribute to the development of operational strategies and to the overall strengthening of the integration and focus on health in the activities of IFRC in the Americas.
  • Compile information needed for the elaboration of case studies as examples of best practices and lessons learned to improve coordination and peer-to-peer support between National Societies in the Americas.
  • Compile relevant information and data on health as it relates to non-communicable diseases, climate change, migration, violence, and access to health services and medical drugs that could be useful for National Societies and IFRC in their programming.
  • Map country policies and strategies related to preventing NCD (ex. healthy diet in schools, tobacco, alcohol access, and promotion of exercise).
  • Develop case studies on specific topics related to IFRC health portfolio.
