Assessment Begins With the End in Mind

What is Our Goal as a University?

Ultimately, we want our students to graduate with the knowledge, skills and experience required to be competent and successful healthcare professionals. If this is the goal, how do we know that our students are learning what we intended for them to learn? Answering that question is the purpose of "assessment."

The learning that takes place in the classroom is shaped by programs (Nursing, Dental Hygiene, etc.), and programs take their lead from university-wide goals. We look for evidence of learning at all three levels: in the classroom, in programs (and departments), and at the institutional level. If we find that we are not achieving the desired outcomes, we modify our approach in order to achieve better results.
